M3U URL vs Xtream Codes: Which Login Method Is Better?
M3U and Xtream Codes API are the two main ways an IPTV player loads your subscription — an M3U link is a single URL pointing to a plain-text channel list, while Xtream Codes is a login (server, username, password) that lets the app fetch channels, VOD and EPG data separately and keep them updated automatically. Most modern players accept both; Xtream logins are generally the more convenient option.
How M3U works
An M3U file is a plain-text playlist listing the streaming URL of every channel in your subscription. You paste the single link into your player once, and the app parses the file to build its channel list. Updates to your channel list mean the provider updates the file at that same URL.
How Xtream Codes API works
Instead of one static file, Xtream Codes is a live API: you enter a server address, username and password, and the player app requests live channels, VOD titles and EPG data from the server on demand. This generally keeps everything more current and lets apps build richer interfaces (search, categories, catch-up) on top of it.
